The Cannabis Cup is one of the most interesting festivals in the world held in the most exciting city in the world.

However, its days may be numbered.

The government in The Netherlands has promised to make radical changes in the current soft drugs laws, which have been some of the most liberal soft drugs laws in the world since the 1970′s.

It appears that the direction the Dutch government may take is to make cannabis illegal for non-residents.

Currently, cannabis coffeeshops in Holland are allowed to sell five grams of marijuana or hashish in one day to anyone 18 years of age or older.

The Dutch government is considering converting the current system of open to the public coffeeshops into private clubs, where only Dutch residents may enter to make a purchase, and therefore tourists would be shut out.

It has not happened yet, but the government has said it is only a matter of time.

For now, the Cannabis Cup is still able to run.  But for how long is anyone’s guess.

Cannabis Cup 2012 in Amsterdam Holland is scheduled to take place as it always has during the week of Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the United States of America).

Amsterdam Trips LLC (www.AmsterdamTrips.com) offers a complete tour package to the Cannabis Cup which includes:

  • Six Nights Hotel
  • Cannabis Cup Judge’s Pass
  • Meet & Greet At Amsterdam Airport
  • Airport To Hotel Transfer
  • Amsterdam Orientation
  • Red Light District Tour
  • Canal Boat Cruise City Tour
  • Transport & Escort To The Main Cup Venue

The Cannabis Cup is run by High Times magazine and 2012 will mark the 25th edition of the event.

To attend the Cup, attendees (mainly from the United States and Canada) purchase a Judge’s Pass, which entitles them to a wide range of benefits including entrance to all Cannabis Cup events, live music shows, parties, shuttle rides to the coffeeshops, program guide, t-shirt, and the right to cast a vote to select the Cannabis Cup winners.

Perhaps the highlight of the Cup is the live shows that are held nightly in the Melkweg (Milky Way) in the Leidseplein area of Amsterdam, which is the main nightlife area of town.

Every year there are a number of nationally recognized musical acts performing.

The shows fill up quickly so it is best to arrive early.  If you do not have a Judge’s Pass, then you may not get in.

There are also seminars held on all things pot related, like growing and medicinal uses.

Judges can hop on the shuttle busses that run throughout the day every day of the Cup to visit the various cannabis coffeeshops that are competing.

Although you have to pay for any of the cannabis you wish to test or judge, coffeeshops sometimes offer Judges a discount rate.  Some have also been to known to offer free samples, but there is no guarantee that that will happen.

NOTE:  If you have ever considered attending the Cannabis Cup, it is highly recommended that you attend in 2012 because you never know when it may be the last one.
